About
Me
I grew up in Switzerland and moved to the States when I was 15. I am an american Web Designer with a passion for typography. I know enough back end php/mysql to get by, but have wholly committed to the front end. I am desperately trying to split and grow my UI Design and Front end programming skill-sets concurrently while trying disprove the notion that you can't do both very well.
My Blog
Thoughts on Design is intended as a study of what makes Good Design and User Experiences. As such its primary purpose is to educate me (and you). There will be much gathering of content from across the web to be shared here. I try hard to give credit where credit is due and to cite sources properly. If I have failed to do so, please let me know, and I will do my best to make amends. I use Wordpress to power my blog.
This Site
This site is somewhat of a visual experiment. If there is anything on here you feel strongly about please let me know. I designed this site based on a 12 column grid. I built it using "Modular Layout Systems" based on Jason Santa Maria's article. Wordpress is used as the Blog engine only. Photography on non-blog pages taken by me unless part of the portfolio.
My Day Job
I work as a User Interface Designer at a Fortune 500 Financial Services Company with over 6 million members. That means I get to design User Interactions in Photoshop, then make prototypes in XHTML/CSS, and then get them to dance using OO JavaScript. I LOVE what I do.
My technical Experience
I designed my first website when I was 17 (10 years ago) and have never looked back. Since then I've designed websites for dozens of clients, and get to work on a site that it used by millions each month. I am comfortable with YUI, JQuery, writing my own OO JavaScript.
